OPEN CALL for PERFORMERS
Bang Bang Baroque & Manageable Matter

OPEN CALL FOR PERFORMERS
The artist and choreographer Emma Waltraud Howes, together with Marie Glassl (Production Manager), are searching for performers for the live presentation of two time-based installation works, Bang Bang Baroque and Manageable Matter.
On this occasion, Emma would like to invite artists interested in exploring durational performances that incorporate soft-sculptures, voice, and improvisation with fallible objects. Buttressed by graphic systems for concentrated encounters, or ‘serious play’, this process embraces embodied experience toward the creation of ‘Cadavre Exquis’—chimeras that foster alternative perspectives.
We are searching for a diverse cast of mature performers who have a minimum of five years of experience with the following:
Performing in both museum and public spaces, i.e., working with proximity to the audience and an absence of the fourth wall
Durational performance
Learning choreographic sequences and improvising within imaginative based tasks
An affinity for interpreting graphic language
Humility and grace or a willingness to fail abundantly
A dark sense of humour is enticing but not required
We are currently casting for two separate projects. The following information is important to know, but does not exclude the possibility of involvement in the workshop itself:
BANG BANG BAROQUE
Three large inflatable sculptures made from parachute nylon are worn by performers who move amidst the guests. Two Scorekeepers act as witness and support to protect the inflatables while in play—akin to the ball keepers in tennis.
NOTE: If you are prone to a fear of enclosed spaces, claustrophobia or anxiety, the inflatables may not be the most appropriate role for you.
MANAGEABLE MATTER
A performance for nine players, that will explore notions of gravity and grace through the inclusion of metal and glass sculptures, to be combined with the score, ‘Shifting Tethers: or how to conduct a flustered symphony’.
DATE & TIME
The workshop will be held in English at EDEN studios, March 21 & 22, from 10 am to 14:45 pm.
Please send one PDF that includes a letter of interest introducing yourself, with a short bio/CV and relevant movement material*links to glasslmarialuisa@gmail.com before February 28, specifying if you are interested in both or only one of the projects.
*We would be happy to receive a short video of you moving, 5 mins max., improvising with the following:
‘CAUSTIC COMPERSION or OPTIMISTIC INCREMENTALIST’
Due to the incredible abundance of applications, the confirmation and more details will be extended. We hope to send out a confirmation via email before March 10th.
