Rehearse your Intent
Separate the tears from the water … they will come back to haunt your trees

22 May–22 May 2019

In her workshop Rehearse your Intent for Kunsthochschule Mainz, Emma Waltraud Howes will introduce practical exercises toward a method for supporting the agency and creativity of the individual. Exercises will include the development of scores as a frame to work within, the highlighting of embodied knowledge, and an exploration of the accumulative possibilities that occur when diverse individual skill sets encounter one another. This process will evolve into a soft head banging workshop. Together we will secure our tethers in order to direct our purpose to the furthest degree. Rehearsing newly acquired skills, we will explore the ‘thing’ of our collective aims, and practice the benefits of improvisation and adaptability as tools to keep afloat in precarious times. Through a vigorous and critical analysis of the role that dynamism plays in communication – this event will aim to illustrate that friction is productive when boundaries are respected. Exercises may include Gi Gong meditation, shivering anchors, Baroque Ba Gua push hands with ghosts, sweeping, as well as voice and movement techniques.
