“The air is darkened by the birds in flight.”— Petter Dass, The Trumpet of Nordland (trans. Theodore Jorgenson, 1954; 2015 ed.)

FLOKK is a movement workshop for all ages and abilities. No prior experience is required – only a desire to move and to be moved by, with, and for others.

Held in the fields of Sandnessjøen, Norway, Emma Waltraud Howes will guide participants through a series of collective movement practices that explore the art of flocking together–where no one person leads or is led by another.

Inspired by the movement of birds, flocking is a gathering of individuals that travel collectively. Associated with migration, it can also offer foraging benefits and protection from predators. While birds fly and fish swarm with apparent ease, humans often struggle to move collectively. Our ego’s can cause us to stumble or trip, push forward or fall behind, while others march to the fore.

FLOCK is both a practice and a form of protest: an invitation to move together in mutual support toward a playful and respectful collective motion.

For all ages  – No previous experience necessary
