Meaningless Gestures
Rian-galleriet Kunstmuseet Nord-Trøndelag
2018
series of twenty-four carved sculptures, plexiglas, fishing wire
variable
Sculptural gesticulations hang from the ceiling via transparent fishing wire, and plexi-glass plates. The forms appear to be in dialogue with one another to reference the notations that musicians employ to communicate the movement of sound. These hands are scored to echo the intentions of Rian as a choreographed placement of materials indicative of a discussion, argument, or physical attempt at verbal communication – movements that illustrate a similar intent to Rian’s use of paint, as materials indicative of sound.
