Stage Directions for a Mouth
Stage Directions for a Mouth: Ram-tat-tat! Rat-a-tat-tat! is an installation that is presented as a collective of parts. In the HD video, Stage Directions for a Mouth, a sole organ explores non-semantic gestures while playing with its alignment to and away from a cacophony of banging pots and pans. Through the act of ‘Cacerolazo’ a pot resonates its discontent in an effort to understand its relation to a collective protest by means of an exciter amplifier magnetized to its back, Ram-Tam-Tam! Rat-a-Tat-Tat! A digital print poster illustrates stage directions by means of onomatopoeia (English, French, and German language), alluding to the original stage directions for ‘Not I’ by Samuel Beckett (1972). Mumbling mouths made from pewter hang midair, … pst, pscht … hush, shhhhhhh !!!, while a prompter box remains empty facing the gallery which has been transformed into a stage.
